The last time I checked, this was my favorite book. I sympathized with Daisy, at the time, and ever since I never quite got all the hatred that was directed her way. If anything, you’d think that would go towards Myrtle or Tom!
I think a very telling moment for Daisy was when she was showing off her daughter. To me, this speaks volumes about her and her increasingly disparaging thoughts on life. Of succumbing to her situation of unhappiness and going on with life. This one line alone gives Daisy so much depth in my eyes, and I really think there’s a story there. No, not the one that was told, not one that involves Gatsby, but one solely and uniquely all about Mme Buchanan.
“I’m glad it’s a girl. And I hope she’ll be a fool — that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.”
